Serving Jesus through discipleship

Erased from the Book of Life?

In today’s devotional reading, I was introduced to a new concept. The passage is Revelation 3:5, “He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” Is it possible to have your name erased from the book of life? What about “once saved, always saved?”

I hope someone comments on this. I would enjoy a good discussion and time of learning!

Like you, I believe that once saved- we’re saved. However, how many times in our own lives have we turned our backs on someone or something that we were previously committed to?
Have you ever known anyone who “found Jesus”, then- as things changed in their lives (the term is “stuff” happens) they somehow lost that relationship?
While working in the State Prison, I knew many inmates who, while they were incarcerated, attempted to turn their lives around- read the bible, attended services,etc- and at least outwardly made great improvement in their lives. Were they saved? They thought so. Some even helped preach to other inmates. Many acted as mentors.
But then, after release, they went home- to the same negative environment they had been torn from by their conviction- and in a month, a year, or whatever, turned back to the things of this world and lost their faith.
I believe that is the key- God won’t save us, if we won’t “save” ourselves by faith in Christ Jesus. That’s the only requirement, but it is a requirement.
Tht’s my thoughts- what do the rest of you think?
