The Security of Trusting in God
Read Psalm 91 and you might see, like I did, a nugget that is more valuable than the words on the page. “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the almighty.”
To the casual reader, the meaning may seem obvious. And the obvious meaning is true. But today I thought, “What does it mean to dwell in the shelter of the Most High?” I think that this means that not only does the person run to God for protection, but depends on God for all his needs. God can do all things and meet all your needs. He provides your daily food, both physical and spiritual. He provides your clothing. He provides your shelter, which cannot be breached. He is your wealth which lasts forever and cannot be lost or stolen.
In verse 2, David says, “My god, in whom I trust!” I just get the impression that David trusted God for far more than the words on the page might indicate. David trusted God for everything. What we know of David’s life, there were times when David tried to “go it alone”. Those were the times of David’s greatest sin.
We can learn a lot from David. What we need to learn from him is how to trust God!
