Serving Jesus through discipleship

A Sure Thing

Chapter one of the book of Joshua is an interesting read. When God charges Joshua to lead the people across the Jordan to occupy the land, He tells Joshua, “I have given it to you.” It is a done deal. All the people have to do is trust God and obey His command and the outcome is assured.

So it is with us! Our God is a faithful God. He keeps his promises and they endure forever. God has promised us eternal life and that also is a done deal. We just have to trust God and obey His command. He could, and has, told us the same thing He told Joshua, “Be strong and very courageous. Do not let the book of the law depart from your lips, but meditate on it day and night so you may be careful to do all that is written in it.” God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous several times is this passage. Why does He repeat this command several times?

I believe that God repeated this command to Joshua because any show of fear on his part and the hearts of the people would melt. It is imperative that the Israelites know that the outcome is assured if they obey. If they shirk their duties, they would not be able to perform the task that God has prepared for them. It’s the same with us. We are charged with building the church. We have to get out there and preach the Gospel. God is responsible for the outcome but we must be strong and very courageous and do not let the book of the LORD depart from our lips. The outcome is assured. God will accomplish His ends though us! We just have to let Him.

Will you let Him?
