Serving Jesus through discipleship

Let God Be Your Treasure

“Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart! But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling, my steps had almost slipped.” (Psalm 73:1-2)

In this Psalm, psalmist described how and why it is so easy to get caught up in the things of the world. We see people that do not know God prosper while we struggle to scratch out a living. We struggle with why an all powerful God wouldn’t give us the desired or our heart when He so richly blesses his enemies. Big houses, good food, luxury cars; we see the people of this world with all of these things and we want these things as well.

We do not realize that we are destined for something better. The real treasure is God Himself! If we focus on the Almighty, we find that the riches of this world are nothing compared to the favor of our God. Do you think that by denying us the pleasures of this world, God is keeping us close to Him?

I think that when we start to lust after the things of this world, we are already wrongly focused. The pleasures of this world are temporal, the approval of God is eternal. The pleasures of this world lead to destruction; the grace of God to eternal life. Tell me, how do you win the approval of the Almighty?
