The Wisdom of God
Shortly after Solomon took the throne, God appeared to him and asked , “What shall I give you?” We all know how Solomon answered. Do we know why God was pleased with that answer?
The Bible tells us that. “Because you had this in mind, and did not ask for riches, wealth of honor, or the life of those who hate you, nor have you even asked for long life, but you have asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge that you may rule My people over whom I have made you king” (2 Chronicles 1). After reading 2 Chronicles 1 did you notice that Solomon’s request was not selfish? He was asking for wisdom so that he could do the job that God had given him to do; rule over God’s people. I think that Solomon had wisdom already. He had the wisdom to ask for that which God wanted to give him and in fact had already given him so that God would be glorified.
Solomon received a bonus as well. Because he asked for a Godly gift, God granted him earthly riches as well. This whole story reminds me of what Jesus said in Mathew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.”
