Is the Lord With You?
“The Lord is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.”
These are the words of Azariah, son of Oded, the prophet of the southern kingdom, to Asa, the king of Judah. Although the southern kingdom of Judah had been without God for a long time and they had been worshiping idols, had no teaching priest and were without the law, they turned to the Lord, the God of their fathers, and He let them find Him. (2 Chronicles 15)
It is interesting to note that prior to this happening, about ten years after Asa became king, Zerah, the Ethiopian, attacked Judah with an army of a million men. Asa, who only had about 580,000 men prayed to the Lord this prayer: ” LORD, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O LORD our God, for we trust in You, and in your name have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.” 2 Chronicles 14 tells us that the Lord routed the Ethiopians before the army of Asa, and they fled.
What I don’t understand is why, after this, would Asa and the people of Judah abandon God, as 2 Chronicles 15 said that they had. While I don’t understand it, I know that we today would have done the same thing. We attribute the miracles of God to ourselves or to some other “natural” phenomena and return to our sinful ways.
The words of Azariah are true for us today. They were not a promise to just the sons of Israel! We can readily see that America has forsaken God today. We know that America started as a godly nation because of the wording of our founding documents and the inscriptions that were engraved our monuments and institutional structures. What is now our national motto “In God we Trust” was inscribed on our coinage as early as 1864. There are revisionist historians in our institutions of higher learning that refute the documents written by our founders. These “scholars” believe they know more about the people who made history than those historical figures knew about themselves. They are changing the history of this once great nation and excluding God from the picture. The church looks no different than the non-churched. God has been forsaken in America today. It is becoming clear the God has forsaken America as well.
All is not lost! We still have the opportunity to repent. If God has sent a prophet to us to repeat the words of Azariah, his words have been concealed. Christian, it is up to you and me to get the word out; to bring our nation back to the Lord our God. God is waiting on us! Are you up for the challenge?
